Arts-and-Humanities-can-make-you-a-star

Arts and Humanities can make you a star!

Arts stream has the maximum career growth one can ever imagine.

Humanities and arts not only contribute to society in many ways but are also very essential for intellectual growth and development of the mind. After all, we live in a society and therefore it important to know how it runs. No country, state, community or even a group is complete without the existence of arts and humanities.  When I took the decision to go for Arts stream back in my school days, I was pretty much sure what I was going for. In fact, opting for humanities was the best decision of my life.  My main subjects were English, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Economics. I met my intellectual, artistic, creative and smarter self during that time. Suddenly I realized that humanities have the potential to provide us the utmost power to understand literature, ancient and modern language, performing arts, philosophy, polity, economy etc. which directly helped me deal with life issues better and make creative choices.  I was more imaginative, resourceful, innovative and capable. I truly discover my real potential through humanities.

Today, I am able to do multiple jobs at the same time and have an exciting career. The journey of my career was thrilling and fun, I literally have experience of working in every sector connected with arts.

Let me share with you my journey so far in the field of humanities –

  1. What did I do after passing out from school?

– I never had an interest in Mathematics and Science but somehow Social Studies and English were always my favorite. What gave me a real kick during my school days was performing on stage, participating in debates, speaking and reading in front of the class.  Though I was always nervous but felt alive whenever I was on stage.  I always knew arts is my thing! So, I decided in the eleventh standard that I will go for media studies, mass communication, and journalism. Hence, I started preparing for the entrance exam.

  1. It was tough to get admission in a good college!

Reading newspaper regularly, mugging up general awareness questions, improving my writing skills weren’t enough, I had to go for coaching to prepare for logical reasoning and aptitude. I applied at Delhi University, I. P University etc. but didn’t get selected in my dream college in DU. However, I was lucky enough to get through another college in DU and pursued B.A Journalism (Hons.) in Delhi University.

  1. College was the beginning of a new life

I started calling myself a journalist as soon as I entered college. My passion, interest, and zeal was it its peak.  Our faculty gave us immense support and guidance.  After almost eight months of hardcore classes and training, I didn’t have the patience to wait for next year. So, I applied at the Pioneer newspaper for an internship and got selected. I remember meeting celebrities, taking interviews, going to attend events, covering exhibition and I loved it all.

  1. I found solace in theatre

After finishing my internship with more than 40 bylines and writing over 100 articles, I shifted my focus back to my classes.  But, my mind kept wandering and one day I opened up to my teacher, she instantly suggested me to join a theatre group and put my creative energies to good use. Theatre became my life and even more.

  1. My tenure as a cultural secretary of my college

Because of my keen interest in performing, I directed many plays in my college and acted in many as well, thanks to my theatre group. I started a street theatre society in my college and was elected for the post of cultural secretary. What an experience it was, learned leadership and management skills.  By this time I had become rebellious and courageous.

  1. I was now ready to do a job

I got my first job when I was in the second year, I managed it all like a super girl-  job, classes, and theatre. I worked as a content writer for a few months but soon realized I want to do something else. I then worked with a news-based web portal and got hands-on experience in production. There I learned editing and camera.

  1. It was time to study more

After finishing my graduation, I wanted to do my masters in Mass Communication and Journalism from Jamia Millia Islamia. I instead got selected for a P.G course in Development Communication which was extremely enthralling.

  1. From reporting to filmmaking

After passing out from Jamia, I worked with a production house as a scriptwriter and then with India Today as a video editor, I even taught theatre in schools and colleges, later I started teaching Direction and Production to mass communication students and currently I am working as a promotional and marketing head for an upcoming Bollywood film and I am sure there is a lot more to go.
