From a farmer to a cataract surgeon, Padma Awards 2019 was full of surprises and diversities!
Veteran actor Kader Khan, journalist Kuldip Nayar, choreographer/director Prabhu Deva, singer Shankar Mahadevan, cricketer Gautam Gambhir, Kanwal Singh baby corn and mushroom farmer are among the 112 most deserving people who received the Padma Awards on January 25, 2019. Interestingly, this year the awards were not only unconventional but were dedicated to the real ‘people’ and not to government bureaucrats.
Out of the total 112 recipients, 21 are women and 11 foreigners or NRIs, three posthumous awardees and one transgender person. Exceptional sorts this time included progressive farmers, traditional farmers, animal husbandry sector, doctors for serving the poor and even our comrades from outside the country who have saved the lives of thousands of Indian citizens during the war in Yemen. This shows the proficiency, zeal and drives that many of our countrymen pose. They are indeed the epitome of life with a real purpose.
Success never comes overnight; all these people who have now become legendary must have put in years of hard work, dedication and most importantly a clear vision.
